Melbourne Instructors

Bowing in karate is a gesture of respect, not of subservience and has no religious significance. We bow in recognition of a senior’s knowledge, ability and dedication.

Our instructors are not only chosen for their years of experience and teaching ability, but for their sensitivity and desire to help others. Our training methods and course structure have been developed over 45 years and have been used by thousands of students.

Sensei Paul Loy

4th Dan Black Belt
Head of Jin Sei Ryu Victoria

Sensei Paul has spent over 20 years studying martial arts. He’s trained across Australia and around the world, as a student, a teacher, as well as to enter tournaments.
He started a club in Hong Kong and was the national head for 3 years, before moving back to Australia, to continue his training. Sensei Paul now runs the Melbourne dojo, teaching along with Sensei Sarah.

As a teacher he enjoys watching students grow to become more confident people. His philosophy is that every student has a different journey. Whether it be building self confidence, becoming a better or stronger karateka, improving flexibility, or just learning to calm your mind. Every student’s journey is unique. He enjoys helping each and every one along that journey.

Sensei Sarah Geisler

4th Dan Black Belt
Melbourne Instructor

Sensei Sarah has been training Karate-Do for almost 17 years. Her training started in Teakwondo, where she trained for 4 years as a child. She started Karate-Do as a teenager after taking a short break from martial arts and it has been a constant in her life ever since. Her love for Karate training started as a way to develop focus and discipline, but she's found mindfulness, fitness, a sense of achievement and progress, and great fun have all come from Karate!
Sensei achieved her Shodan in 2012 and since has trained in New York, Seattle, London, extensively at Honbu in Sydney, and now most recently in Melbourne.

Sensei Sarah is particularly passionate about flexibility, and believes Karate can improve mental and physical health in an encouraging environment where everybody is welcome.
